Wet ride

Rode 32 miles today in a real downpour. Really wanted to ride more but my new winter shoes are not waterproof and although I was wearing wool socks my feet were freezing. Didn't take any pictures as I forgot the camera just as well they don't like the rain. Did learn that my front bag keeps most water out but with the amount today all the items in the side bags were soaked. I also found a one led bike light could be useful. Mostly I rode the greenbelt they have plowed most of it some sections were really sketchy. It was a nice ride not a lot of folks out.

More of the same

Another weekend of snow removal and snow shoeing. We got about another foot of snow so we just broke trail on the same routs as last week. Saw a couple of snowmobiles apparently they didn't read the sign that said no motorized vehicles. They were a little lost and asked for directions. I was nice and pointed them in the right direction. Afterwards I realized that I my directions were right but I don't really think they could get there as it is a really steep ATV trail in the summer. Course if they were smart they would snowshoe or ski anyway.

Commuting

The purchase of the studded tyres was more for entertainment. The have proved to be quite use full this week for commuting. I discovered that I have to leave a little early as they are a little heavy and slow. I have them mounted on the titus now as the old specialized is being sold. Have to part with a few bikes this year to get new ones. I will probably sell the redline SS as well. Not sure what 29er will replace them but as of today it will be the specialized stumpjumper. The bike looks right to me and so far seems to be the best value. It also has sliding dropouts for an easy SS conversion.

Snowshoeing this past weekend was great as the snow has settled a bit. We will have to go up this weekend and clear out the driveway. Maybe I will remember to shoot some pictures. That means I will have to remember the camera and batteries.

Snowing

Spent the last few days in Idaho City shoveling and blowing snow. Actually had a good time. No snow riding but did go snowshoeing. Used Sky's new booties. They worked real well after they were adjusted properly. Tomorrow is Christmas and I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Oh I almost forgot me and the other reindeer ran the Christmas run! Haven't run since April actually felt great. Some people disagree with me when I say that riding a single speed helps my running but, I still believe it works. Looking forward to next year and doing some long rides. At this point I am not planning to do any mountain bike races. We will see. Had more fun last year riding and randoneering.

Snow Ride 1

Didn't take any pictures this weekend as I was either too busy or having to much fun. I am happy to report that the monster meats worked great as there was little snow and lots of ice to ride in. By far the best riding I have ever done in the snow. The tires are 2.1 inch. Nokians with lots of studs. The bead is really stiff I used a motorcycle tire iron to put them on. They are too stiff a side wall to use a normal lever. I broke one then changed my plan. My mileage is unknown and not really important as the short 45 min. ride was a good work out. I will not be able to ride up there for the next few weeks but, will of course continue the commute. Looking forward to the days getting longer soon. Till next time.

The picture is from last weekend but we did hike up this ridge again this weekend.

Monster meats

Just purchased these studded tyres slightly used off Crags list. can't wait to try them out this weekend in Idaho city. There has not been allot of snow but the extra traction in the ice should make riding more fun. Cant wait .

B-Days

Two of the cutest girls.
New house across the street at sunrise.
Winter Hiking trail.
My wife and fathers B-days are close together. We celebrated them together on the eighth at my parents. Good times and food. Later we went up to Idaho City and checked on the house. The snow slipped off the roof and nothing new to blow. I rode the mountain bike a little 10 degrees in the morning. After a short ride we went for a long hike. A blue bird morning, Sunny and crisp as I type my eyes are very heavy and tired. In between all of this I have painted what I am now calling the little boys room. Yes a bathroom in the colors you would paint a little boys room. I like it and that is what counts. Here's a few pictures from the weekend.
